Make your work AI-legible

The more AI knows about how you work, the better it gets at helping you.

The more AI knows about you, what you want, and how you work, the better job it can do.

So I put real effort into giving my AI everything it needs to do its best work. My company chat is in Slack. My email is connected. My meetings are recorded and transcribed.

Even when I'm talking with coworkers in person, I'll say, "Hey, can we put a recorder on?" We talk through what to do next, and the whole conversation ends up written down for the AI.

When I ask AI to help me make a decision about my work, I don't want it giving me a generic answer. I want it giving me an answer that's thoughtful and takes into account all of my context. I want it to look at everything so it can give me something that's not just generally right, but right for my specific case.

Recently we had to make a pricing decision for our new agent product. Because AI had our meetings and conversations, it could tell what our goals were and who our customers are, and it helped us figure it out.

AI is getting very good at picking up taste and preferences. The more of yours it has, the better it can model you and what you want.

This isn't the same as ChatGPT or Claude remembering things about you. Their memory only knows what you've told it in your chats. Your meetings, email, notes and docs are the context that actually gets you better answers.

Three things to do this week:

1. Record your meetings. Use a notetaker that transcribes them. Have the notes land somewhere your AI can read them.

2. Write things down where AI can reach them. Decisions, ideas, how you like things done.

3. Connect your AI to those places. Your email, your docs, your notes. It can't use what it can't see.

Once it's connected, your AI should use all of this on its own. For even better results, add this to your request:

Before you answer, look through everything you can reach: my connected accounts, notes, docs and meeting transcripts. Then work the way I would.

You don't need to record everything. Just start with what would help and add more as you feel comfortable.

If you want an easy place to start, today's sponsor, Granola, is great for recording meetings.

Start now. In six months, the people who did this will have an AI that knows them. Everyone else will be starting from zero.
