Copilot prompts for beginners

This prompt creates a practical starter pack of copy-and-paste prompts for common everyday work. Use it when you want useful AI help without learning prompt jargon first.

PromptOpen ChatGPTOpen Claude
Create a beginner-friendly pack of 10 copy-and-paste prompts I can use in ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or Gemini. My main reasons for using AI are [MY GOALS], my typical work or life context is [MY CONTEXT], and I am comfortable with [SKILL LEVEL].

Cover these situations: understanding a confusing topic, drafting an email or message, planning a task, comparing options, summarizing material I provide, preparing for a meeting, improving my writing, brainstorming ideas, learning a practical skill, and organizing a personal decision.

For each prompt:
1. Give it a plain-language title and say when to use it.
2. Write a ready-to-copy prompt using 2 to 4 square-bracket fields I can replace.
3. Include a short example filled in for [EXAMPLE SCENARIO].
4. State what source material I should paste, if any.
5. Add one follow-up message that improves the first answer.

Use prompts that ask the AI to separate facts from assumptions, show options with tradeoffs when making recommendations, and say when it lacks enough information. Do not include prompts for financial, medical, legal, or safety decisions that treat AI as a professional; those prompts must instead help me prepare questions or organize information for a qualified person.

Before answering, check that every prompt has a concrete output format and no prompt asks the AI to invent personal facts, citations, results, or experience. Keep each prompt under 120 words and explain unfamiliar terms in plain language. Ask up to 3 clarifying questions only if a required input is missing.

Fill in

PlaceholderWhat to enterExample
[MY GOALS]List the everyday tasks you want AI to help you with.write clearer emails, plan my week, understand reports, and prepare for meetings
[MY CONTEXT]Describe your job, studies, household, or other setting in one sentence.I am an operations coordinator at a 20-person landscaping company.
[SKILL LEVEL]State how familiar you are with AI tools and the kinds of outputs you can assess.I can paste notes into ChatGPT but I am new to writing prompts.
[EXAMPLE SCENARIO]Give one ordinary task that can be used in the examples.I need to explain a late delivery to a customer and propose a revised date.

How to use

  1. Replace the four fields with your own situation and paste the prompt into your AI tool.
  2. Save the three to five starter prompts that match tasks you actually repeat.
  3. For any answer that contains facts or recommendations, check its source material and assumptions before using it.
  4. Send this follow-up when an output is too broad: “Rewrite prompt 4 for my specific situation: [DETAILS]. Keep the same output format.”

Do not invent facts or citations; mark unsupported claims for me to supply. Ask up to 3 questions only if a required field is missing.

Learning starter pack

Use this when you want AI to support study or skill-building.

Variation
Create 8 beginner AI prompts to help me learn [SUBJECT] at [CURRENT LEVEL] for [GOAL]. Include prompts for explaining concepts, making practice questions, checking my reasoning, building a study plan, and turning notes I paste into flashcards. Every prompt must ask the AI to distinguish explanation from verified fact and not pretend it has seen material I did not provide. Give a one-line example for [TOPIC]. Ask up to 3 questions only if essential information is missing.

Work planning pack

Use this when you need help organizing recurring work.

Variation
Create 8 beginner prompts for planning work in [ROLE] at [ORGANIZATION TYPE]. Cover prioritizing a list, preparing a meeting, turning notes into tasks, identifying project risks, drafting a status update, and making a simple decision memo. Each prompt should request a specific output such as a table, checklist, or agenda and include placeholders. Use [CURRENT PROJECT] in examples. Do not make deadlines, owners, or business facts up; label missing information. Ask up to 3 questions if needed.

Tips

  • Start with a task you already understand well, so you can spot a weak or invented answer quickly.
  • Paste the source email, notes, policy, or assignment whenever accuracy depends on it; a prompt cannot replace missing context.
  • Ask for a format you can use immediately, such as a three-option table, a checklist, or an email draft with a subject line.
  • Keep successful prompts with the input fields intact, then reuse them instead of starting a new chat each time.

FAQ

Do beginner prompts need a role such as “act as an expert”?

Usually no. The task, source material, audience, and requested output matter more. Add a role only when it changes a real convention, such as a tutor explaining at a stated level.

Can I use the same prompts in ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini?

Yes. Plain prompts with pasted context and a specific output work across the major tools.

What should I do when the AI gives a confident but questionable answer?

Ask it to identify which statements come from your material and which are assumptions. Verify important claims using the original source or an appropriate professional.
